Belgium June 2019: Renault snaps lead, Citroen (+20%) and Mercedes (+16.6%) shine

Renault is the best-selling carmaker in Belgium in June.

Now updated with the Top 10 models.

Belgian new car registrations stumble down -11% year-on-year in June to 50.044 units, leading to a First Half tally down -6.3% to 310.489. Renault (+8.2%) goes against the grain with a very satisfying uptick enabling the French carmaker to overtake Volkswagen (-22.8%) and easily snap the brands pole position for the month at 11.5% vs. 9.1% so far this year. Keep in mind Renault always uses end-of-Quarters to backload its sales with artificial fleet and demo registrations in order to meet targets.

Peugeot (-11.8%) almost matches the market to round up the podium but it’s once again Citroen (+20%) that scores that largest year-on-year gain in the Top 20 with Mercedes (+16.6%) also in outstanding shape at #4. In contrast, BMW (-30.1%), Audi (-18.4%), Dacia (-16%), Ford (-14.9%) and Opel (-13.1%) all fall faster than the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, notice Tesla (+459.6%), Alpine (+283.3%), Bentley (+33.3%), Smart (+29.2%) and Ferrari (+18.2%) among the very rare gainers.

Model-wise, Renault shows its (artificial?) dominance with the Captur (+118.5%) best-seller ahead of the Scenic (+23.7%) and Clio (+12.9%), the latter snapping the YTD pole position off the VW Golf (-31.5%) in great difficulty this month. The Hyundai Tucson (+11.5%) remains strong at #4, the Mercedes C-Class leaps to 5th place and earns a 6th spot YTD along with it and the Mercedes A-Class (+102.3%) continues on its new generation-fuelled euphoric run.
