Slovakia May 2019: Skoda Octavia now #1 YTD, Kia (+23.9%) and Cee’d (+27.4%) shine

The Kia Cee’d is up to #2 overall in Slovakia in May.

New car sales in Slovakia edge up 2.2% year-on-year in May to 9.888 registrations, edging the year-to-date tally further into positive territory at +0.6% to 42.679. Brand leader Skoda (+11%) vastly outperforms the market to reach 20.4% share vs. 19.5% so far this year, followed by Volkswagen (+3.1%) with Kia (+23.9%) ousting sister brand Hyundai (-4.7%) from the podium. Dacia (+39.7%) is the most dynamic carmaker in the Top 20 ahead of Citroen (+37%), Toyota (+25.3%) and Opel (+12.2%) whereas Suzuki (-35%), Ford (-30.4%), Mercedes (-27.1%) and Renault (-21.9%) sink. Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (+24.1%) reclaims the both the monthly and YTD leads off the Skoda Fabia (-21.6%) with the Kia Cee’d (+27.4%) soaring 5 spots to #2 and leaping up to #3 year-to-date. The Skoda Karoq (+3.1%) is up 4 ranks to #6 and the only other Top 10 nameplate in positive.
