Kuwait First Half 2019: Toyota Land Cruiser chases Prado for #1 in market up 14.8%
The Toyota Land Cruiser is now threatening the Prado for the Kuwaiti pole position.
The Kuwaiti new light vehicle market confirms it is back on track with a splendid 14.8% year-on-year uptick over the First Half of 2019 to 54.892 units. The best-selling brands trio all outpace the market: Toyota (+17.3%), Nissan (+16.4%) and Chevrolet (+18.3%) now add up to 48.4% of Kuwait sales vs. 47.5% a year ago. It’s a different story for Mitsubishi (-27.7%) and Kia (-3.4%) below, but Ford (+22.8%), Honda (+10.8%) and Hyundai (+8.4%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Prado (-16.9%) is in great difficulty but retains the top spot for now above the Toyota Land Cruiser (+31.8%), Nissan Sunny (+165%), Toyota Camry (+26.5%) and Hilux (+29.1%) all advancing fast. If the Prado were to lose its annual top spot in Kuwait this year, it would be the first time in 10 years it doesn’t rank #1. The Kia Sportage (+43.6%) and Mazda6 (+249.8%) also impress near the top but the Mitsubishi Pajero (-47.8%) is dying.
