Brazil June 2019: Jeep scores 4th consecutive all-time volume record in market up 9.4%

Jeep lifts its record volume to 11.032 in June with only two models on sale.

The Brazilian new car market signs a 25th year-on-year gain in the past 26 months in June at a very solid +9.4% to 213.438 registrations. Like last month, the Top 3 best-selling brands outpace the market with double-digit gains: Chevrolet (+12.6%), Volkswagen (+13.1%) and Fiat (+12.8%) accentuate their domination, adding up to 47% of new car sales in Brazil vs. 45.6% a year ago in June 2018. Below, Renault (+7.9%) and Hyundai (+7.1%) are up but trail the market whereas Ford (-8.1%) painfully falls. Local producer since 2015, Jeep (+26.3%) is the most dynamic Top 10 carmaker, scoring a 15th double-digit year-on-year gain in the past 16 months, a 4th consecutive all-time monthly volume record at 11.032 and equalling its ranking record at #8, also hit last March. Toyota (+16.9%) is also in outstanding shape in the Top 10 while beyond, Chery (+228.2%) posts the largest monthly result for any Chinese carmaker in over 6 years, since JAC sold 1.988 units in April 2013, while Citroen (+27.5%) and Volvo (+16.2%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 20 but Mercedes (-39.2%), Land Rover (-34.8%), Kia (-30.3%), Suzuki (-30.3%) and Audi (-23.7%) implode.

The Chevrolet Onix (+20.2%) is once again head and shoulders above the competition in the models ranking, almost doubling the market growth and securing a 47th consecutive monthly win (no interruption since August 2015). The Ford Ka (+7.2%) is back above the Hyundai HB20 (-1.7%) for #2 while the Renault Kwid (+57.5%) scores the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 8 to remain in 4th place. The Fiat Argo (+37.4%) ranks inside the Brazilian Top 5 for only the 2nd time ever after last February (#4), smashing its volume record at 7.539 (previous best 6.881 in October 2018) and equaling its share record at 3.5%, also hit last February. The Jeep Renegade (+63%), Chevrolet Prisma (+52.6%), VW Gol (+32.4%) and Fiat Strada (+17.2%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10. Among new launches, the VW T-Cross (#25) is up two spots to reign supreme above the Citroen C4 Cactus (#49), Chery Tiggo 5X (#60) and Chery Arrizo 5 (#91).
