Belgium April 2019: Renault and Clio take the lead, BMW (+12.3%) on podium in market down 2%

The Belgian new car market edges down -2% year-on-year in April to 53.498 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -4.9% to 209.364. Renault (-3%) overtakes Volkswagen (-9.6%) to take the lead of the brands ranking with 10.1% share vs. 9.8% while BMW (+12.3%) passes Peugeot (-8.6%) to climb onto the podium. Volvo (+26.1%), Audi (+20.1%) and Citroen (+14.4%) post the largest upticks in the Top 20 and the only other double-digit gainers. In contrast, Nissan (-42%), Opel (-14.8%), Seat (-12.3%) and Toyota (-10.5%) are the hardest hit. Below, Tesla (+478.3%), Mitsubishi (+42.3%), Ssangyong (+27.8%), Smart (+24.3%), Suzuki (+19.8%) and Jeep (+13.8%) make themselves noticed. Model-wise, the Renault Clio (+121.5%) soars to pole position, unsettling the VW Golf (-9.4%) both for the month and YTD, with the very dynamic Renault Scenic (+27.2%), Hyundai Tucson (+32.2%) and Citroen C3 (+86.1%) in tow. The Ford Focus breaks into the YTD Top 10 at #9.
