Sweden April 2019: Mercedes (+41.6%) stays afloat in 10th consecutive double-digit decline (-11.6%)
Mercedes C-Class sales are up 229.9% in April.
New car sales in Sweden endure a 10th consecutive double-digit year-on-year fall in April at -11.6% to 30.253 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -14.4% to 104.133. The Top 2 best-selling carmakers Volvo (-21.1%) and Volkswagen (-30.6%) both drop a lot faster than the market whereas Mercedes (+41.6%) manages an incredible lift in third place with 9.4 share, distancing Kia (+3.4%) and BMW (+9.9%) also able to defy the depressed market conditions with sizeable upticks. Tesla (+734.3%), Ford (+23.3%) and Seat (+12.7%) are the only other gainers in the Top 15 just as Nissan (-48.7%), Peugeot (-42%), Fiat (-24.9%) and Renault (-17.5%) implode. Jaguar (+585.2%), Mitsubishi (+56.1%), Land Rover (+46.2%), Lexus (+21.7%), Jeep (+21%) and Mini (+18.8%) also shine below.
Over in the models ranking, Volvo monopolises the podium for the second straight month and only the third time in the past year with the Volvo S/V60 (+109.6%) now fully enjoying the benefits of its new generation, breaking its volume (2.490) and share (8.2%) records established in November 2016. It is followed by the S/V90 (-54.7%) and XC60 (-30.9%) while the VW Tiguan (-14.6%) and Golf (-35.5%) round up the Top 5. The Mercedes C-Class (+229.9%) leaps up 14 spots on March to #6, distancing the Kia Niro (+112.4%) and VW Passat (-56.6%) while the new Toyota Corolla, replacing the Auris, is up 16 ranks on last month to break into the Top 10 for the first time at #9. Up to #5 last month, the Tesla Model 3 skids down 10 spots to #15 and we welcome the VW T-Cross at #78.
