Michigan (USA) Full Year 2018: Chevrolet Equinox tightens stranglehold with 19.000 unit-lead
The Chevrolet Equinox cements its domination in Michigan.
Thanks to our partnership with JATO Dynamics, after exploring Full Year 2018 State by State sales in the U.S., we delve into the detail of the largest American States. We’ll start with Michigan, the 10th most populous State and with its largest city Detroit making it the cradle of the American automotive industry. As such, car buyers in Michigan are extremely loyal to local manufacturers and in 2015, 2016 and 2017 the Top 10 models were exclusively composed of U.S. nameplates and no Asian models in sight. As this year we only have access to a Top 5, it is impossible to verify this feat but the five best-sellers are still 100% U.S., as is the case for 8 other States (Arizona, Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming).
The Chevrolet Equinox (+5.2%) cements its domination, once again posting its only State win here and increasing the gap with the #2 from 13.000 units in 2017 to a whopping 19.000 this year. The Ford F-150 (+22.3%), national leader, hops up one spot to #2 thanks to the largest gain in the Top 5, with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (+6.5%) climbing onto the third step of the podium. In contrast, the Ford Escape (-19.7%) painfully falls to #4 while the Ram 1500 (+7.5%) remains at #5, making it three full-size pickups in the Michigan Top 5 like in 2017.
