Mexico March 2019: Mazda (+45.8%) stuns, market loss thins to -1.2%
The CX-5 (+118%) helps Mazda up 45.8% in Mexico this month.
The Mexican market keeps its decline to a minimum in March at a slim -1.2% year-on-year to 117.135 units, which could signal a return to form later in the year. The YTD tally is down -1.5% after three months at 332.052 units. Once again market leader Nissan (-10.6%) is struggling but at 21.7% share, its advance over the next best-selling carmakers is such that its lead isn’t threatened in the least. Chevrolet (-6.8%) stands at 15% and Volkswagen (-10.9%) at 9.8% meaning the entire podium is frankly underperforming this month. Mazda (+45.8%) is by far the biggest gainer in the Top 10 ahead of Renault (+12%), Kia (+9.7%) and Toyota (+7.3%). Just outside, Mercedes (+44.7%), Mitsubishi (+39.3%) and Suzuki (+32.2%) make themselves noticed while further down Acura (+36.6%) and Peugeot (+22.5%) are also strong.
Model-wise, the Nissan Versa (-1.6%) easily holds onto the pole position ahead of the Chevrolet Aveo (+18.3%) in great shape, knocking the Beat (-13.5%) down to #3. The Kia Rio (+17.1%), VW Vento (+4.4%) and Nissan March (+0.6%) are the only other Top 10 models in positive. Just outside the Top 10, the Mazda CX-5 (+118%) shoots up 17 spots on last month to a fantastic 11th place, with the Toyota RAV4 (+162.8%), Hiace (+144.8%) and Mazda CX-3 (+65.7%) also very impressive in the remainder of the Top 20. The Renault Oroch (#50) leads recent launches (<12 months) above the Suzuki Ertiga (#65), Seat Arona (#72) and Kia Sedona (#101).
