Romania February 2019: Dacia (+82.7%) boosts market up 37.5%
Dacia Sandero sales are up 181.8% year-on-year at home.
The Romanian new car market surges another 37.5% year-on-year in February to 12.071 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 26.8% to 26.023. Homegrown carmaker Dacia (+82.7%) plays a big market in this fantastic result, reaching exactly 1 in every 3 cars registered this month (33.3% share). Ford (+62.3%) and Renault (+51.8%) complete a podium entirely outpacing an already galloping market, ahead of three under-performing brands: Skoda (+7.9%), Volkswagen (-10.7%) and Opel (+26.9%). In contrast Toyota (+112.4%), Hyundai (+107.3%) and Nissan (+90.2%) all roughly double their sales vs. February 2018 in the remainder of the Top 10. Large gains are a lot rarer further down the ranking, illustrating a phenomenon where customers flock to only the trusted brands. Dacia retains control of the models podium with the Logan (+83.4%), Duster (+35.9%) and Sandero (+181.8%) ahead of the Skoda Octavia (+36%), Ford Focus (+70.4%) and Nissan Qashqai (+200%). The VW Polo (+511.9%) and Renault Megane (+75%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10 with the Ford Ecosport (+667.7%), Hyundai i20 (+230.3%), Renault Captur (+127.4%) and Dacia Dokker (+108.9%) the most dynamic just below. The Audi Q8 (#79) is the most popular recent launch (<12 months) above the BMW X2 (#84) and Volvo XC40 (#98).
