Peru Full Year 2018: Toyota Hilux ends Yaris reign in market down 8%

New vehicle sales in Peru drop a harsh 8% year-on-year in 2019 to 165.802 registrations, including 148.410 passenger cars (-9.3%) and 17.292 medium and heavy commercials (-3.9%). Among passenger cars, sedan/hatches freefall -17.9% to 61.440 sales, SUVs edge down 3.6% to 45.997, vans drop 6.1% to 21.688 whereas pickups soar 7% to 19.285.
In the brands ranking, Toyota contains its fall to -4.2% and as a results improves its share to 17.2%, distancing Hyundai (-18.8%), Kia (-16.9%), Chevrolet (-17.5%) and Suzuki (-19.1%) all falling much faster than the market with double-digit drops. Mitsubishi (+6.6%) and Volkswagen (+3%) post the only known year-on-year gains in the Top 10 while Changan brilliantly breaks into the Top 10 at #10.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux leaps up 13.6% to end 5 consecutive years of domination by the Toyota Yaris (-33.2%) and top the Peruvian ranking. The Kia Rio Sedan (-26.9%) also overtakes the Yaris to #2 while the Toyota Etios Sedans makes a remarkable entrance at #4 above the Hyundai Accent (-28.3%). The Kia Picanto (+2.6%) also posts an uptick at #6 with the Chevrolet N300 aka Wuling Rongguang ranking at an excellent #8.
