Papua New Guinea (PNG) is one of the world’s least explored nations culturally and geographically. It occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea north of Australia, with the western half forming the Indonesian provinces of Papua and West Papua. PNG is home to 8.1 million inhabitants, most of them living in customary communities which are as diverse as the 848 languages listed for the country.
