Lithuania January 2019: Skoda Octavia leads, 6 VWs in Top 10 in market up 49%
VW Transporter sales in Lithuania are up 10-fold on January 2018.
The Lithuanian new car market surges 49% year-on-year in January to 3.145 registrations based on data shared with us by our partner JATO Dynamics. Keep in mind Lithuania sales are heavily impacted by re-exports: a very large part of cars registered in the country are then re-exported to other EU markets and never see Lithuanian roads. This explains for some wild changes in the best-seller rankings. Case in point in January, after having maxed out sales in December (Fiat 500 at 34.6% share, Tipo #2), no Fiat nameplate appears in the January Top 10. Instead, the Skoda Octavia is #1 like a year ago in January 2018, and there are a whopping 6 Volkswagen nameplates in the Top 10, 3 of them making their very first appearance inside Lithuania’s monthly 10 best-sellers: the Transporter (#2), Polo (#9) and T-Roc (#10). Meanwhile the Tiguan (+48.2%) ranks at #3, the Passat (+8.2%) at #5 and the Golf (+24%) at #6. Notice also the Renault Clio (+66.7%) at a record #7.
