Colombia January 2019: Chevrolet back above Renault for just 8 units in market down 2.9%
Renault may be the #2 brand in Colombia this month, but the Sandero remains by far the best-selling model.
New vehicle sales in Colombia drop 2.9% year-on-year in January to 15.965. For the first time since last August, Chevrolet (-22.1%) manages to outsell Renault (-1.1%) to resume its domination of the Colombian brand ranking, but its advantage is all the more fragile: just 8 units! To try and stop the haemorrhage, General Motors has announced the launched of 5 new models in Colombia in 2019, among them the new Blazer and the new generation Captiva, a rebadged Baojun 530. Elsewhere in the Top 10, Hyundai (+26.4%), Suzuki (+21.6%), Volkswagen (+20%), Nissan (+12.9%) and Mazda (+8.2%) all sign fantastic gains whereas Ford (-11.6%), Toyota (-11.3% and Kia (-11%) straggle. Further down, Kenworth (+585.7%), Jeep (+238.5%), Scania (+81.3%), Fiat (+49.4%), Volvo (+44.1%), Honda (+39.2%), Mercedes (+37.8%), Mini (+37.5%), Audi (+25.9%) and Peugeot (+22.2%) all shine. Model-wise, the Renault Sandero (+14.2%), leader for the past 3 years, confirms it is the favourite of Colombians by defying the negative context, posting a double-digit gain and selling almost double the amount of any other nameplate in the country. The Chevrolet Spark (-57.4%), Renault Logan (-1.2%), Mazda2 (+78.9%) and Renault Duster (-8.9%) complete the Top 5 while the Chevrolet Onix (+190.7%) and Nissan March (+17.1%) show strong gains in the remainder of the Top 10 and the newcomer Chevrolet Beat ranks #9.
