Brazil January 2019: Renault (+46.6%), Jeep (+26.1%), Toyota (+15.4%) strong in market up 8.7%

The Kwid (+95.5%) helps Renault up 46.6% in Brazil in January.

After gaining 13.7% over the Full Year 2018, new light vehicle sales in Brazil showcase a solid start of 2019 with January deliveries up 8.7% to 190.752, marking a 21st consecutive month of growth. Chevrolet (+6.8%) and Volkswagen (+6.5%) fly under the radar this month, gaining a little less ground than the market year-on-year but the next three brands gain share thanks to double-digit improvements: Fiat (+11.8%) is up to 13.7% vs. 12.4% in December, Toyota (+15.4%) is up to 8.6% share and the most impressive of all, Renault (+46.6%) ends the month just 50 sales below Toyota at #5 overall, down from #4 last month. Jeep (+26.1%) easily maintains itself inside the Brazilian Top 10, Citroen (+23.2%) is stuck at #11 while Chery (+151.4%) posts the largest gain in the Top 20 and cements its title as the best-selling Chinese carmaker in the country. Kia (+43.9%), Volvo (+32.2%), Mercedes (+15.1%) and Audi (+13.4%) also impress.

The Chevrolet Onix (+17.3%) vastly outpaces the market to enjoy a 42nd consecutive month at #1 (no interruption since August 2015), also posting its 2nd highest ever market share at 9.9% (only beaten by the 10% it hit last November). The Ford Ka (+4.8%) is back above the Hyundai HB20 (-2.5%) for the 2nd place overall while the Chevrolet Prisma (+16.8%) advances almost as fast as its hatchback variant the Onix, with the VW Polo (-18.1%) rounding up the Top 5. The Renault Kwid (+95.5%) and Jeep Renegade (+90.3%) snatch the two largest year-on-year gains in the Top 15, ranking #6 and #10 respectively. The Fiat Cronos (+7479.4%) and VW Virtus (+4075.6%) celebrate one year in market and rank #27 and #18 respectively just as the Honda City (+235.8%), Civic (+88.3%), Renault Captur (+59%), Duster (+57.3%), Fiat Fiorino (+51.2%), Toyota Hilux SW4 (+50.6%), Fiat Uno (+39.2%), Ford Ka Sedan (+37.1%), Renault Sandero (+36.9%), Fox (+31.7%), VW Amarok (+29%), Renault Logan (+27.1%) and Ford Ecosport (+20.2%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10.
