It’s a 6th consecutive year of growth for Slovenian new car sales in 2018 at +2.7% to 72.835 units, the largest annual volume of any year since we started following this market in 2003. Volkswagen (+11.7%) cements its brands leadership with an improved 16.2% share vs. 14.9% in 2017, distancing Renault (+5.3%), Skoda (+0.2%) and Opel (-1.9%) in a Top 4 unchanged on last year. Fiat (+82.9%) is by far the best performer in the Top 20, shooting up 10 spots to #5 overall, with Kia (+20.3%) and Peugeot (+12.1%) also impressive in the Top 10, and Jaguar (+185.7%), Smart (+182.5%), Jeep (+109%), Volvo (+40.6%), Subaru (+41.5%), Mitsubishi (+34.8%) and Porsche (+19.5%) also shining further down.

The Renault Clio (+7.2%) manages a 21st consecutive annual pole position “at home” in Slovenia where it is produced, ranking #1 8 times during the year vs. just 4 in 2017. The VW Polo (+89.4%) soars 6 spots on last year to snap the 2nd place and ranked #1 in May. It overtakes its big brother the VW Golf (-17.5%, #1 in July), while the Skoda Octavia (-7.1%, #1 in September) drops one spot to #4  and the Renault Captur (+43.5%, #1 in August) is stuck at #5 but improves its share by almost one percentage point to 3.4%. The Fiat 500 (+561.7%) multiplies its 2017 sales by 7 and gains 63 spots to #7, undoubtedly due to sturdy orders by rental car companies. The Nissan Qashqai (+71.4%) and Fiat Panda (+69.2%) also shine and the VW T-Roc tops all 2018 launches at #13, peaking at #7 in July and August.
