New Zealand Full Year 2018: Ford Ranger signs 4th straight win in 5th consecutive record year

The Ford Ranger is the best-selling vehicle in New Zealand for the 4th straight year.

The New Zealand new vehicle market continues to gallop ahead, snapping a stunning 5th consecutive all-time record annual volume at 161.519 units, up 1% on the previous record of 159.872 established last year. Passenger cars (including cars and SUVs in New Zealand) gain 0.5% to 109.053 units while Commercial vehicles are up 4% to 53.466.

Toyota (-0.1%) celebrates 31 consecutive years atop the New Zealand brands charts at a round 20% share. Ford (-2.7%) and Holden (-9.5%) round up the podium like in 2017, in contrast with neighbour Australia where they rank 5th and 6th respectively. Mitsubishi (+7.4%) overtakes Mazda (+0.8%) for 4th place overall, with Kia (+6.2%), Nissan (+6.1%), Volkswagen (+6.1%) and Hyundai (+2.6%) all outpacing the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Only Suzuki (-6.6%) records a loss. Further down, Chinese LDV (+50.8%) is up 3 spots to #15, with Jeep (+24.7%), Skoda (+23.3%), Volvo (+18.3%), Honda (+14.9%), Peugeot (+13.7%), Lexus (+13.5%) and Renault (+12.6%) also impressive in the Top 30 and Haval (+501.1%) up 18 ranks to #29.

Over in the models ranking, the Ford Ranger (+5.1%) is the outright best-seller for the 4th year in a row, improving its market share to 6.1% and widening the gap with the #2, the Toyota Hilux (-0.2%) from 1.314 to 1.817 sales. The Toyota Corolla (-6.3%) remains the best-selling passenger car at #3, while the Toyota RAV4 (+7.3%) is once again New Zealand’s top-selling SUV. Excellent performances of the Suzuki Swift (+25.6%), Nissan Navara (+19.8%), Mitsubishi Triton (+16%) and Mazda CX-5 (+14.3%) inside the Top 10 while the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (#27) is the most popular 2018 launch.
