Greek new car sales soar 17.4% year-on-year in 2018 to mark a 6th consecutive year of gains at 103.431 units, the first six-digit annual volume in 8 years (since 2010). We are however still very far very far from the all time high of 279,554 sales registered in pre-GFC 2007. Brand leader Toyota (+17.3%) almost matches the market growth to hold its share at 11.4%, but both Volkswagen (+32.1%) and Peugeot (+28.7%) improve drastically to 8.7% and 8.1% respectively. Hyundai (+41.7%), Citroen (+31.2%) and Renault (+18.7%) also outpace the marker in the remainder of the Top 10 but Fiat (+11.4%), Suzuki (+10.1%), Nissan (+9.7%) and Opel (+4.3%) do not. Jaguar (+229.7%), Kia (+125.1%), Lexus (+66.7%), Dacia (+65%), Mitsubishi (+45.3%), Seat (+42.4%), Subaru (+41.2%), Land Rover (+39.7%), Volvo (+29.8%) and Jaguar (+29.7%) also impress further down.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Yaris (+18.8%) is the best-seller in Greece for the 6th year in a row and the 7th time in the past 9 years at 6.3% share, a safe 2.700+ sales margin above the VW Polo (+55.1%) up 6 spots on 2017 to #2, with the Fiat Panda (+20.9%) and Peugeot 208 (+25.1%) rounding up the Top 4 like last year as the Opel Corsa (+5.5%) drops 3 ranks to #5. The Citroen C3 (+24%) also improves its share at #8 and the Nissan Micra (+4.1%) and Renault Clio (+15.7%) make the Top 8 100% superminis. The Nissan Qashqai (+11.8%) is the best-selling non-supermini (also #1 SUV) but drops 3 spots to #9. Inside the Top 20, notice also excellent performances by the Kia Picanto (+227.9%) up 38 spots to #56, the Toyota C-HR (+58.8%) up 14 to #15, Ford Fiesta (+54.1%) and Hyundai i10 (+41.9%).
