Slovakia October 2018: Skoda Octavia holds off Fabia for top spot, market dips 4.4%
The Skoda Octavia is the best-seller in Slovakia for the third time in the past 4 months.
After freefalling 37% in September, the Slovak new car market significantly slows down its fall by dipping only 4.4% in October to 8.071 registrations, meaning the year-to-date total is now up 5% at 83.792. Both Skoda (+13%) and Hyundai (+7%) swim upstream like last month and add up to one-third of the market combined (31.3%). Volkswagen (-34%) on the other hand is still in difficulty even though it climbs back up four spots on last month to #3. The next three carmakers all post stunning gains: Peugeot (+42%), Toyota (+23%) and Kia (+18%) ignore the surrounding gloom. Further down, notice Jaguar (+33%), Honda (+31%), Volvo (+26%) and Jeep (+24%). Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (+1%) manages to hold off its smaller sibling the Skoda Fabia (+14%) for the #1 spot for the third time in the past 4 months, yet the Fabia (+8%) remains #1 YTD above the Octavia (-5%). Nearing the end of its life, the Skoda Rapid (+23%) posts a swan song month ahead of the Kia Cee’d (+58%) up two spots on last month and the Hyundai i30 (+19%) down one. The Skoda Karoq celebrates one year in market by climbing up to #6 vs. #9 YTD. The Kia Sportage (+34%) is in great shape but it’s not the case of the VW Golf (-60%) nor the Suzuki Vitara (-44%).
