Portugal November 2018: Mercedes A-Class up 74% at #2 in market down 12.1%
The Mercedes A-Class ranks 2nd best-selling model in Portugal.
It’s a third consecutive month of double-digit decline for Portuguese new car sales, still reeling from post-WLTP hangover in November at -12.1% to 15.495 registrations. The year-to-date tally however remains in positive at +3.4% to 212.132 units. Renault (-25%) reclaims the brands top spot it holds year-to-date off Peugeot (-2%) despite a hefty fall (the largest in the Top 6), with Mercedes (+2%) holding onto a splendid third position. Nissan (-3%) climbs back up two ranks to #4, with Toyota (+17%) and Citroen (+14%) the only double-digit gainers in the Top 13 while Opel (-37%), Volkswagen (-35%), Seat (-19%) and BMW (-12%) all struggle. Further down, Volvo (+54%) continues to swim upstream with Suzuki (+64%), Mitsubishi (+56%), Porsche (+50%), Hyundai (+45%), Jeep (+39%), DS (+35%) and Honda (+21%) also in excellent shape. Reversely Audi (-79%), Alfa Romeo (-55%), Kia (-34%) and Skoda (-21%) falter.
Similarly to Renault, the Clio (-23%) is the best-seller in Portugal like it is year-to-date but has to endure a particularly harsh drop. In contrast, the Mercedes A-Class (+74%) is in flamingly good shape at #2 and 3.7% share vs. #6 and 2.5% share year-to-date. The Nissan Qashqai (-11%) and Renault Captur (-15%) climb back up to #3 and #4 respectively but still drop by the double-digits, while the Peugeot 3008 (+35%) and Dacia Sandero (+21%) are the only other double-digit gainers in the Top 10 just as the Nissan Micra (-0.3%), Citroen C3 (-2%) and Peugeot 2008 (-8%) all manage to outpace the market with minimal falls. Further down, the Nissan Leaf (+963%), VW T-Roc (+240%), Renault Zoe (+236%), Toyota C-HR (+171%), Seat Arona (+169%) and Fiat 500 (+75%) stun with spectacular gains while the Volvo XC40 (#39) tops all recent launches (<12 months).
