Indonesia November 2018: new gen Honda Brio stuns with first ever pole position

Surprise: the Honda Brio is the best-selling vehicle in Indonesia in November.

New car sales in Indonesia continue to improve in November at +4.8% to 100.767 wholesales leading to a year-to-date volume up 7% to 1.063.464 units. Toyota accounts for 31.7% of the market this month vs. 30.6% YTD, while Daihatsu at 17.8% and Honda at 13.7% are both very close to their YTD levels. Mitsubishi (10.1% vs. 12.6%) is weaker but still sports a 92% surge YTD thanks to the introduction of the Xpander while Suzuki rounds up the Top 5 at a round 10% share in November. Model-wise, we have a big surprise at the top: the Honda Brio Satya (+76%) enjoys the full benefits of a new generation by snapping the pole position for the very first time. In fact, this is the first time a passenger car (and not an MPV) holds the monthly top spot in Indonesia since we started following this market monthly back in 2010, and potentially the first time in 20 years since the Kijang Innova started taking ownership of local sales. Even if it drops 25%, the Toyota Avanza cements its YTD leadership above the Mitsubishi Xpander (+4%) down a further two spots to #6. Other great performers include the Suzuki Carry Pikap (+73%), Toyota Rush (+286%), Daihatsu Terios (#8), Toyota Agya (+96%) and Daihatsu Ayla (+68%).
