Chile November 2018: Chevrolet (+23%) cements lead, first market decline in 2.5 years
Chevrolet sales gain 23% in a negative market.
The October 2018 post has now been updated with the Top 20 models.
The Chilean new car market unexpectedly puts an end to 30 consecutive months of year-on-year gains in November (no interruption since May 2016) with registrations down 2.7% to 33.518 units. The year-to-date tally however manages to break the all-time annual record established in 2013 (378.240), up 17.1% on the same period in 2017 to 382.057 registrations. Chevrolet (+23%) ignores the negative context to remain in the brands lead with 10.3% share, whereas immediate followers Kia (-6%), Hyundai (-17%) and Suzuki (-26%) all fall faster than the market. Ford (+7%), Nissan (+3%), Toyota (+1%) and Mitsubishi (-0.4%) also manage to outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 but Peugeot (-38%) struggles. Further down, notice Opel (+145%), Dongfeng (+104%), Mini (+83%), Jaguar (+79%), Mercedes (+74%), the Chrysler Group (+56%), Maxus (+55%), MG (+47%), BMW (+26%), Volvo (+25%), Changan (+21%), Chery (+21%) and Subaru (+15%) all posting very dynamic performances. Chinese carmakers as a whole gain another 17% to 13.2% share vs. 12.9% so far this year.
