The Qatari new car market endures a 13% year-on-year drop over the first 10 months of 2018 to 37.616 registrations, a slight improvement on the 14% drop recorded over the First Half. This decline is reduced to 9% when only accounting for the same set of manufacturers, which means removing the VW and BMW Groups from 2017 data as both have stopped reporting sales for the region. Brand leader Toyota (-8%) falls slightly slower than the market to improve its share to 34.1%, that’s more than double the #2, Nissan (-19%) at 15.3% while Mitsubishi (-9%) and Kia (-6%) somewhat resist but Lexus (+20%), Chevrolet (+6%) and most strikingly Land Rover (+88%) brave the adverse conditions in the Top 10 to post year-on-year gains. GMC (-4%) and Honda (-9%) also see their share lift but Hyundai (-55%) implodes. Further down, Renault (+79%), Peugeot (+68%), Jaguar (+37%), Isuzu (+15%), Subaru (+9%), Infiniti (+6%) and Jeep (+5%) are among the best performers while MG lands at #19.
The Range Rover Velar is inside the Qatari Top 50 so far this year.
Model-wise, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-5%) cements its leadership with a staggering 13.8% market share, followed by its premium twin the Lexus LX (+19%) up two spots on its FY 2017 ranking to #2 overall. The Nissan Patrol (-29%) completes a podium exclusively composed of large up-scale SUVs, with the Toyota Hilux (-12%) and Prado (-17%) rounding up the Top 5. Outstanding performers below include the Nissan Sunny (+88%) and Toyota Hiace (+39%) in the Top 10 and the Suzuki Swift Dzire (+803%), Ford Edge (+459%), Renault Duster (+287%), Range Rover Velar (+195%) and Range Rover (+170%) further down.
