New car sales in Portugal rise 28.7% year-on-year to 15.360 registrations, boosted like most EU markets by stock-clearances ahead of the new WLTP emissions standards put in place on September 1. This lifts the year-to-date tally up 8.4% to 169.906. Renault (+116%) gets a particularly strong (and artificial) boost at #1, whereas Peugeot (+24%) and Mercedes (-0.2%) are more measured. Fiat (+114%), Nissan (+85%), Hyundai (+77%) and Seat (+57%) dominate the year-on-year improvements in the remainder of the Top 15, with Jeep (+3325%), Porsche (+194%) and Alfa Romeo (+154%) making waves further down. The Renault Clio (+159%) and Megane (+175%) repeat at #1 and #2 and seemed to have a lot of stock to get rid of this month. They are followed by the Peugeot 208 (+21%), Mercedes A-Class (+42%) and Nissan Qashqai (+13%), posting more reserved improvements. The Nissan Leaf (+2129%), Peugeot 3008 (+197%), VW Polo (+195%), Toyota C-HR (+154%), VW Tiguan (+124%), Ford Fiesta (+113%) and Dacia Duster (+100%) can put their growth down to new models, but the Fiat Punto (+320%), Renault Kadjar (+190%), Nissan Juke (+177%), Fiat 500 (+122%), Audi A4 (+118%) are all artificial.
