The Mexican new car market is down for the 15th consecutive month at -5.3% to 118.729 registrations, pulling the year-to-date tally down 7.7% to 913.817 units. This is however the lowest decline rate since last April so hopes that the market will bottom out soon are gaining some hesitant traction. Worryingly and for the 7th month in a row, brand leader Nissan falls faster than the market at -10% but remains comfortably in the lead at 21.9% share, distancing Chevrolet (-1%) at 16.6% and Volkswagen (-16%) struggling even more at 10.8%. Below, Toyota (+5%), Kia (+9%), Mazda (+10%), Hyundai (+6%) and most strikingly Ram (+14%) all go against the overall gloom to post year-on-year gains. Further down the charts, Jaguar (+222%), Land Rover (+183%), Isuzu (+56%), Lamborghini (+50%), GMC (+47%), Suzuki (+35%), Lincoln (+33%), Audi (+30%), Smart (+18%), BMW (+17%), Infiniti (+16%) and Volvo (+14%) are the most dynamic.

The Kia Forte breaks into the Mexican Top 10 for the first time.

The Chevrolet Aveo surges 54% to snap the lead of the Mexican models ranking for the first time since December 2016 at 6.6% share vs. 6.3% for the YTD leader the Nissan Versa (-7%), earning the #2 spot YTD. Note the Aveo isn’t produced locally anymore, now imported from China where it is called Sail. The Nissan Pickup (-3%), Chevrolet Beat (-5%) and VW Vento (-5%) rounds up a Top 5 mostly in negative. The Kia Forte (+73%) and Nissan March (+17%) post the largest gains in the Top 10, meaning there are two Kias in the Mexican Top 10 for the first time in history as this is the very first stunt of the Forte inside the Top 10. The Toyota Hilux (+28%), Chevrolet Trax (+25%) and Seat Ibiza (+21%) also shine, with the Toyota C-HR (#83), Honda BR-V (#84) and BAIC X25 (#114) topping recent launches (<12 months).
