Belgium August 2018: Renault (+106%), Nissan (+177%) artificially boost market up 53% with pre-WLTP stock clearances

The Belgian new car market shoots up 53.3% year-on-year in August to 54.437 registrations due to stock-clearing promotions ahead of the new WLTP emissions standards in place from September 1. The year-to-date volume is now up 8.7% to 428.577 units. Renault (+106%) more than doubles its sales to snap the August brands lead at 10.7% share, distancing Volkswagen (+47%) and Mercedes (+52%) while Nissan (+177%) also forces on the pre-WLTP registrations, leaping from #13 in July to #4 in August. Mitsubishi (+487%), Jeep (+420%), Ferrari (+400%), Subaru (+264%), Alfa Romeo (+194%), Infiniti (+165%), Porsche (+154%), Citroen (+133%), Jaguar (+132%), Hyundai (+109%), Volvo (+99%), DS (+95%), Land Rover (+93%) and Seat (+93%) also vastly outpace the market in August.

The VW Golf (+12%) keeps the lead ahead of the Hyundai Tucson (+51%) while the VW Tiguan leaps up six spots on July to climb onto the podium ahead of the Renault Scenic (+17%) and VW Polo (+36%). Notice also the Nissan Qashqai up 74% and the Peugeot 3008 (+25%) earning a spot in the YTD Top 10.
