New vehicle sales in Iraq continue to recover with a 29% year-on-year surge halfway through 2018 to 22.111 registrations, and even +30% when removing the BMW Group from the 2017 equation as the manufacturer stopped reporting sales in the region this year. Kia (+38%) tightens its grip even further on the Iraqi market, reaching 53.7% share so far this year vs. 50.3% at the same stage last year. Toyota (+30%) also improves slightly to 15.4% share but it’s Hyundai (+109%) that posts the most impressive gain near the top, going from 9.3% of the market halfway through 2017 to 15.1% and just 82 units below Toyota now. Nissan (-54%) on the other hand implodes all the while Renault returns directly in a brilliant 5th place. Ram (+480%), Jeep (+265%) and Dodge (+156%) also impress.
Renault has returned to Iraq with the Duster and Symbol (pictured).
Logically, there are 6 Korean nameplates in the Top 7 in Iraq over the period, with the Kia Frontier (+19%) head and shoulders above the competition at 30.4% share followed by the Kia Sorento (+223%) at 9.9% and the Hyundai Tucson (+45%) at 7.1%. The Toyota Hilux (+17%) is down two spots to #4, ahead of the Kia Cerato (+68%), Sportage (+32%) and Hyundai Elantra (+1231%). The Renault Duster lands directly at #10 and the Symbol at #16.
