New car sales in the Czech Republic manage their third positive month of the year in July at +10.1% to 21.638 units, a new record for the month. Thanks to this very satisfying result, the year-to-date tally is back to record levels at +0.8% to 165.422 registrations. Market leader Skoda fails to match its home market’s growth at +6%, resulting in a weak 26.2% share vs. 31.8% so far in 2018. Reversely, Volkswagen and Hyundai both advance 41% to 11.5% and 10.8% respectively. Peugeot (+59%), Citroen (+48%), Renault (+34%) and Toyota (+28%) also frankly outpace the market within the Top 10 whereas Dacia (-27%) and Ford (-13%) put the brakes on. Among smaller brands, Bentley (+200%), Lexus (+106%), Subaru (+84%) and Jeep (+44%) stand out. The models podium is stable with the Skoda Octavia (+0.5%), Fabia (+17%) and Rapid (+8%) in the lead followed by the Hyundai i30 (+12%) and ix20 (+95%). The VW Tiguan surges 240% to #7, posting the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 15, while the Ford Fiesta (+836%), Ford Kuga (+207%), Hyundai i10 (+114%) and Peugeot 2008 (+99%) also shine.
