New car sales in Norway rally back up 11.4% year-on-year in June to 15.845 units, yet because of a difficult start of the year, H1 registrations are down 1.6% to 76.745. Volkswagen vastly underperforms – contrary to most European markets this month – at +1% to 14.1% share, however one percentage point above its YTD level at 13.2%. Toyota is up 13% to 9.9% in second place ahead of four great performers: BMW (+40%), Nissan (+103%), Tesla (+31%) and Volvo (+49%). Year-to-date, Nissan (+75%) and Tesla (+71%) post the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 10. In June, Jeep (+450%), Alfa Romeo (+252%), Dacia (+167%), Mini (+82%), Smart (+60%), Mitsubishi (+54%) and Citroen (+41%) impress whereas Renault (-40%), Opel (-39%), Honda (-31%) and Skoda (-26%) disappoint.
Over in the models ranking, after being outsold by the VW Golf in May, the Nissan Leaf reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date with deliveries up 3-fold on June 2017 thanks to the new model. The Leaf has now topped the Norwegian charts for four of the past five months. Golf sales are down a steep 30% year-on-year with the electric variant representing 70% of its June volume. The Tesla Model X is up 11 spots on May to land on the third step of the podium for June, with Tesla scores always at their highest at end-of-quarters. The Mitsubishi Outlander soars 68% year-on-year to #4 (98% PHEV), distancing the Mercedes GLC up 65% (75% PHEV), the Tesla Model S up 93%, the BMW X5 up a flamboyant 367% (99% PHEV) with the Volvo XC60 up 254% to #9 (92% PHEV) and the Toyota C-HR up 47% to #11 (100% hybrid). The VW T-Roc is up 10 spots on May to break its Norwegian ranking record at #14.
