Now that new licence plates are distributed in July, the Irish market slowly dies down beforehand with June deliveries down 10.4% year-on-year to just 1.250 units, bringing the YTD tally down 4.4% to 87.153. Volkswagen (-4%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date off Toyota (+19%) despite the latter recording very dynamic figures. Opel (+371%) surprises everyone with a 5-fold year-on-year surge in third place vs. #12 YTD, ahead of Skoda (+40%), Ford (+59%), Peugeot (+29%) and Nissan (+14%). At first sight, it doesn’t look like a declining market, but the steep falls are also here, starting with last year’s leader BMW (-91%) alongside Dacia (-65%), Kia (-28%) and Hyundai (-23%). On the plus side, notice also Jaguar (+300%), Mini (+233%), Citroen (+133%), Suzuki (+36%) and Seat (+31%). From one sale in June 2017 to 77 this month: that’s enough for the Opel Corsa to take the lead of the Irish models ranking for June, very far from the #37 spot it holds YTD. Paradoxically, the more recent Grandland X drops to zero unit this month. The Skoda Octavia (+53%) and Toyota Yaris (+33%) close up the podium, with the Opel Insignia (+417%), Ford Focus (+367%), Fiesta (+220%) and Toyota C-HR also impressive in a month that won’t impact the YTD order anyway.
