At 195.066 registrations, new car sales in Brazil post their 14th consecutive month of year-on-year gains in June, however like last month the growth is very limited (+3.7%), possibly indicating the market has already found an equilibrium far from its highest historical levels (the June all-time record is 340.706 in 2012. Year-to-date volumes are up 13.7% to 1.127.217 units. Leader Chevrolet is in negative for the third time in the past four months at -4% to 16.6%, holding onto the top spot for now but Volkswagen is rallying back up fast at +26% to 14.9% share while Fiat (-2%) softens again and posts its third decline of the year. Renault on the other hand manages no less than the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 15 at +33%, bouncing back up from #7 in May to #4 this month and overtaking Toyota for #6 YTD. Other great performers include Volvo (+84%), JAC (+57%), Jeep (+27%), Nissan (+26%) and Kia (+12%) whereas Citroen (-42%), Audi (-24%), Peugeot (-20%), Honda (-18%), Hyundai (-13%), Suzuki (-12%) and Toyota (-12%) are all hit hard.

First ever Top 5 ranking for the Fiat Toro in Brazil.

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Onix isn’t letting go of its pole position any time soon, outpacing the market with a 9% gain to lodge a 35th consecutive month on top (no interruption since August 2015) whereas its next three followers, the Hyundai HB20 (-15%), Ford Ka (+0.3%) and Renault Sandero (-32%) all lose share on June 2017. The Fiat Toro (-1%) breaks into the monthly Top 5 for the very first time despite declining sales, approaching its volume and share records (5.579 and 2.9% in June 2017) but not beating them. Similarly, the Fiat Argo (+234%) celebrates one year in market by smashing its ranking record at #6 (pb was #8 in November and December 2017) equalling its share record at 2.8% (also hit in January 2018) and posting its 2nd highest volume at 5.485 (record is 5.590 in December 2017). The Fiat Strada (+36%) and Jeep Compass (+32%) are also very strong in the Top 10 as is the Result Kwid at #10 now in market for one year. The VW Polo disappoint by dropping 6 spots on May to #11, the VW Virtus repeats its ranking record at #14 and the Fiat Cronos improves it by one at #22. We welcome the Toyota Yaris Hatch at #93, the Volvo XC40 at #107 and the VW Express at #126.
