Netherlands May 2018: VW Polo repeats at #1 in market up 1.3%

The Dutch new car market edges up 1.3% year-on-year in May to 36.952 registrations, meaning the year-to-date volume is now up 11.4% to 206.506. Volkswagen (+10%) vastly outpaces the market to remain well ahead in the brands ranking at 11.9% share, whereas #2 Renault drops a steep 13% to 8.9% ahead of Opel (+8%), Peugeot (+5%), Kia (+26%) and Ford (+16%) all also frankly beating the market. Further down, Tesla (+85%), Subaru (+65%), Lexus (+49%), Smart (+36%), Seat (+30%), Mitsubishi (+24%) and Porsche (+24%) all impress. Over in the models ranking, the VW Polo is propelled up 75% year-on-year by the new generation to repeat at #1 and cement its YTD leadership further with sales up 56% so far in 2018. The Ford Fiesta (+26%) follows in 2nd place ahead of the Kia Picanto (-8%), Renault Clio (-13%) and VW Up (-27%) all in great difficulty. The Peugeot 108 (+30%) and 208 (+21%) also shine in the Top 10. The VW T-Roc breaks into the Dutch Top 20 for the first time, leading all recent launches ahead of the Opel Grandland X at #31 (+26), Opel Crossland X at #35 (-8) and Skoda Karoq at #42 (+5).
