According to data released by our local partner Promocija Plus, new car sales in Croatia gain 7.8% in May to reach the highest level for any month this decade at 8.758 registrations, lifting the year-to-date volume up 17.3% to 29.643. Volkswagen (-12%) reclaims the #1 brands spot it holds year-to-date despite a steep year-on-year drop whereas Renault soars 57% but is knocked down to #2 at 13.5%. Opel (-31%) and Skoda (-24%) follow but are in great difficulty. The remainder of the Top 10 is in positive with Citroen (+193%), Fiat (+85%), Peugeot (+47%), Hyundai (+46%) and Dacia (+42%) faring the best. Notice also Mitsubishi (+400%), Jeep (+367%), Mini (+238%), Porsche (+140%), Alfa Romeo (+75%), BMW (+69%), Smart (+68%) and Honda (+63%) all posting spectacular gains.
Over in the models ranking, the Renault Clio soars 48% to 8.2% share, exactly four percentage points above the #2, the Skoda Octavia (-19%), and logically snap the YTD lead at 6.1% of the market. Note the last time the Renault Clio led the annual Croatian sales charts was in 15 years ago in 2003. Below the Opel Astra down a harsh 31%, Fiat 500 leaps directly to #4 thanks to deliveries up 8-fold on May 2017 – we suspect thanks to generous deals to rental car companies that fill up with new models in preparation for the Summer season. The Citroen C3 (+242%) also impresses, up 10 spots on April to #5, with the Renault Captur (+848%), VW Tiguan (+101%) and Dacia Sandero (+63%) also notable.
