Chile May 2018: Hyundai leads, Chinese up 56% in market up 18.1%

The Chilean new vehicle market continues to gallop ahead in 2018, posting a 5th consecutive double-digit year-on-year gain in May at +18.1% to 35.328 units, a new all-time record for the month lifting the year-to-date volume up 24.8% to 168.902. Hyundai (+13%) steps up two spots on April to snap the brands pole position for the first time this year and only the third time in the past 10 months. The Korean carmaker knocks Chevrolet (+5%) down to #1 just as Nissan (+30%), Toyota (+21%) and Suzuki (+19%) all outpace the market to round up the Top 5. The Chrysler Group (+102%), Ssangyong (+49%), Volkswagen (+26%) and Mercedes (+23%) shine but once again it’s Chinese carmakers that lodge the most impressive gains. Overall up 56% to 13.1% share vs. 12.3% so far in 2018, the best performing Chinese manufacturers are Maxus (+384%), Dongfeng (+124%), Changan (+122%), ZNA (+120%), Lifan (+94%), BAIC (+53%), MG (+46%), JAC (+45%), Chery (+41%) and Foton (+35%).
