Netherlands April 2018: VW Polo cements YTD lead, market up 16.8%

The VW Polo confirms it is the most popular choice for Dutch buyers this year.

New car sales in the Netherlands are up for the 4th month out of 4 this year with April volumes up 16.8% to 34.290 units, lifting the YTD tally up 14% to 169.996. Volkswagen cements its leadership in the brand ladder, doubling the market growth with a 35% year-on-year surge to 11.4% share, ahead of Renault (+11%), Peugeot (+15%) and Opel (+12%) all under-performing while Nissan (+75%), Skoda (+36%), Kia (+28%) and Ford (+24%) outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, Jeep (+185%), Mitsubishi (+153%), DS (+114%), Smart (+92%), Subaru (+55%), Lexus (+38%) and Mini (+33%) also shine.

Boosted by the new generation, the VW Polo soars 89% year-on-year and two spots on March to return to the Dutch pole position it also holds YTD (+52%) with a comfortable 1.172-unit lead over the Ford Fiesta (+35%), down to #3 this month despite a 42% year-on-year gain. The Renault Clio (-11%) is up six ranks on March to #2, the Peugeot 108 (+42%) up five to #4 and the Renault Captur (+11%) up 7 to #12. The Kia Niro (+133%), Toyota Yaris (+99%), Ford Focus (+51%) and Renault Twingo (+35%) also post sizeable gains in the Top 20 while the VW T-Roc leads all recent launches (<12 months) at #25 (+24) ahead of the Opel Crossland X at #27 (+9), Kia Stonic at #43 (+32), Citroen C3 Aircross at #46 (+13) and Skoda Karoq at #47 (+40).
