The Turkish new car market edges up 0.1% year-on-year in February to 47.009 units, meaning the year-to-date tally is now down a tiny 0.2% to 82.085 registrations. Renault remains the most popular carmaker in the country, posting a stunning 19% year-on-year gain to 15.6% share. Reversely, Volkswagen derails 19% to just 11.2% share, just above Fiat at 10.9% (-2%) and Ford at 10.5% (-4%). Skoda surges 76% to #7, by far the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 20. Land Rover (+101%), Jaguar (+100%), Jeep (+53%), Audi (+47%), Volvo (+42%), Seat (+39%), Subaru (+38%) and Mitsubishi (+30%) also impress.
After reaching 8.1% share last month (a record for this generation), the Renault Megane repeats atop the Turkish sales charts in February, up 33% to 6.4% keeping it well ahead in the YTD order at 7.2% share (+47%). The Renault Clio (+12%) is up 7 spots on January to #2, ahead of the Ford Transit (+19%) while the 2017 leader the Fiat Egea (+5%) is down two ranks to #4. In the Top 10, the Toyota Corolla (+44%), Renault Symbol (+24%) and Fiat Doblo (+16%) also post double-digit gains.
Below, the Peugeot 3008 (+424%), Audi A3 (+249%), Skoda Fabia (+134%), Octavia (+115%), Citroen C-Elysee (+82%) and Skoda Superb (+63%) post some of the most spectacular gains. Turkey proves reticent to new nameplates, with the most popular recent launch (<12 months) being the Skoda Kodiaq at a low #76, followed by the Opel Grandland X (#80), Mercedes X-Class (#103), Kia Niro (#105), VW Arteon (#111) and the Ford Ecosport (#114) new for the month.
