The Mexican new car market slows down its fall in February at -7.2% to 109.495 units vs. -17.5% in December and -11.4% in January. The year-to-date tally is down 9.4% to 241.254 registrations after two months. The Top 3 best-selling carmakers all fall frankly faster than the market: Nissan is down 15%, Chevrolet down 21% and Volkswagen down 24%. Bar Dodge (-25%) and Ford (-4%), the remainder of the Top 10 is in positive territory, starting with Toyota (+0.2%) in 4th place. Hyundai (+21%), Kia (+19%), Mazda (+15%) and Honda (+14%) all post impressive double-digit gains. Further down the ranking, Isuzu (+145%), Smart (+118%), Jaguar (+93%), Land Rover (+85%), Jeep (+54%), Lamborghini (+50%), Suzuki (+42%), Lincoln (+25%), Mercedes (+22%), BMW (+20%), Infiniti (+16%), Ferrari (+14%), Porsche (+12%) and Mini (+11%) also impress.
Model-wise, the Nissan Versa (+9%) and Pickup (-12%) remain in the lead while the Chevrolet Aveo (-14%) rallies up three spots on last month to #3 and the all-new Chevrolet Beat is up 6 to #4. The Nissan March (-5%) rounds up the Top 5 ahead of the VW Vento (-24%) and Jetta (-26%). Both the Kia Rio (+129%) and Honda CR-V (+122%) more than double their sales year-on-year at the tail end of the Top 10. The Hyundai Accent (#25), Chevrolet Cavalier (#44) are the other recent launches to rank inside the Top 50 just as the Toyota C-HR is up 19 spots on its inaugural month to #78. In February we welcome the Honda BR-V at #112.
