Belgian new car sales soar 10% year-on-year in January to 56.869 units but drop 3.2% in February to 50.257 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 3.4% after two months at 107.126 sales. Volkswagen (+6%), Renault (-4%) and Peugeot (+1%) end February within just 52 sales of each other, with Volkswagen (+10%) leading the way year-to-date ahed of Peugeot (+9%) and Renault (+5%). Opel (-24%), Citroen (-23%) and BMW (-13%) are all in great difficulty this month all inside the Top 10, whereas further down Jeep (+163%), Ferrari (+83%), Lexus (+45%), Mazda (+29%), Suzuki (+21%), Mini (+18%), Smart (+15%), Dacia (+14%), Jaguar (+14%), Alfa Romeo (+12%), Land Rover (+12%), Porsche (+12%) and Seat (+11%) all post double-digit gains.
Over in the models ranking, in January the VW Golf (+137%) confirms it is the favourite choice in the country, “erasing” a particularly paltry score exactly a year ago in January 2017. The Renault Clio (+13%) takes the 2nd spot ahead of the Opel Corsa (-26%) and Hyundai Tucson (-4%) both in difficulty while the VW Polo soars 29% to 5th place. The Audi A3 (+19%) and Peugeot 3008 (+75%) also shine in the Top 10. In February, the Renault Clio takes the lead both for the month (+2%) and year-to-date (+8%) after ranking #2 over the Full Year 2017. The Nissan Qashqai and VW Golf follow it on the podium, both surging 50% on February 2017. The Hyundai Tucson drops 20% but remains at a splendid 4th place ahead of the Peugeot 208 (+2%) and VW Polo (+24%). The Peugeot 2008 returns inside the Top 10 at #7 despite a 7% drop, but for the Opel Corsa (-41%), Skoda Octavia (-37%) and BMW X1 (-31%) the year-on-year falls are painful.
