The Hungarian new car market is up a whopping 30.9% year-on-year in November to 12.368 units, meaning the year-to-date volume is now above 100.000 (up 21.4% to 105.421) for the first time in a full decade. The last time the annual Hungarian sales volume was a six-digit figure was in 2008 (152.884) , the market bottoming out at a paltry 54.165 units in 2010… Local producer Suzuki is not the best-selling carmaker in the country for the first time since January, this honour going to Skoda surging 87% year-on-year and four spots on October to hit a whopping 15.1% market share. This way, Skoda overtakes Opel to rank #3 brand YTD. Suzuki (+21%) follows the market but posts a low 11% share vs. 13% so far in 2017, while both Ford (+39%) and Opel (+45%) markedly improve their share vs. October 2016. Volkswagen (+18%) passes Toyota (+30%) in the YTD rank to return to the 5th place it held over the Full Year 2016. Nissan (+37%) and Kia (+82%) impress.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia shoots up 120% to take the lead with a gargantuan 11.4% share, accounting for 75% of the brand’s sales in Hungary this month and selling more than all other brands in market. It is the first time since August 2015 that the Octavia dominates the Hungarian sales charts. The Suzuki Vitara is up a feeble 4% to 5.2% share but comfortably holds onto the YTD top spot at 7.4% share vs. 5.4% for the Octavia. The Opel Astra is up 143% to #4, the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross up 98% to #5 and the Ford Focus up 51% to #6. Although down 16% year-on-year, the Renault Clio is up to #7 and finally the Audi A3 makes a very rare appearance – likely to be its first ever – in the Hungarian monthly Top 10 at #9.
