The Indonesian new car market returns to positive in October with a 2.7% year-on-year gain to 94.352 units, lifting the year-to-date volume up 2.5% to 897.492 deliveries. Toyota is the most popular carmaker with 31.7% of the market, distancing Honda at 18% and Daihatsu at 17.8%. Model-wise, the Toyota Avanza remains in control, following the market at +2% for a round 10% share. The Toyota Kijang Innova leaps up 38% to overtake the Toyota Calya, down a harsh 44% on October 2016 when it led the market. The Daihatsu Sigra (-28%) and Honda Brio Satya (-3%) round up the Top 5. Boosted by the new generation, the Honda CR-V is up six spots on September to #10, but the big event this month is the landing of the all-new and spectacular Mitsubishi Xpander at a splendid 13th place with 2.5% market share, instantly becoming the carmaker’s best-seller in the country. Produced locally, the Xpander was launched on the Indonesian market on October 3 after generating 5.281 orders during the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in August. It should be headed towards the Top 10 over the next couple of months.
