Czech Republic October 2017: First Top 10 for the Skoda Karoq

The Skoda Karoq breaks into the Czech Top 10 for the first time in October.

The Czech new car market scores another record in October with sales up 5.9% year-on-year to 23.192 units, smashing the previous October record of 21.905 established just last year. This is the 8th time the monthly record is beaten in the Czech Republic this year, leading to an all-time high 228.703 sales after ten moths, up 6.6% on the previous 2016 record of 214.619. Homegrown market leader Skoda trails the overall growth rate at +4% to 31.7% share, distancing Volkswagen at 10.4% (-7%), Hyundai at 8.7% (-1%) and Ford at 6.1% (+5%). Renault surges 45%, Kia is up 33%, Mercedes up 28%, Toyota up 33% and BMW up 35%, all within the Top 10. Beyond, Nissan soars 99%, Mini is up 28% and Alfa Romeo up 21%. Model-wise, the Top 6 best-sellers are unchanged on September: th Skoda Octavia (-7%) dominates, followed by the Fabia (-10%), Rapid (+20%), VW Golf (+38%), Hyundai i30 (+15%) and Skoda Superb (-8%). The Ford Focus (+59%) and Nissan Qashqai (+177%) both post spectacular gains but the performance of the month comes just below: along with the Skoda Kodiaq celebrating one year in market at #9, its smaller sibling the Skoda Karoq breaks into its home Top 10 for the first time at #10 thanks to 415 sales and 1.8% share.
