New car sales in Oman are on the mend: up 1% year-on-year in August to 11.971 units, reducing the year-to-date decline to -6% at 96.991 registrations. Toyota outpaces the market with a 9% gain to post an outstanding 53% market share vs. 47.5% year-to-date. Nissan is even more impressive at +48% to 19% share, distancing Hyundai (-29%), Kia (-36%) and Lexus (-19%) all in great difficulty. Mitsubishi (+25%) and Jeep (+230%) also shine in the Top 10 while outside, Chevrolet (+51%) and Infiniti (+20%) are among the rare manufacturers to gain ground year-on-year. Reversely, Isuzu (-48%), Dodge (-48%), Subaru (-57%), Renault (-68%) and Ford (-76%) all struggle.

The Geely X7 Sport is the most popular recent launch in Oman.

Model-wise, the Toyota Land Cruiser soars 83% to 13% share vs. 8.7% year-to-date (-2%) with the Nissan Patrol in tow, up 18% to 8.6% vs. 7.6% so far in 2017 (+161%). These are the only two nameplate posting a four-digit sales figure in Oman in August. Below, the Toyota Hilux (-5%), Land Cruiser Pickup (-12%) and Prado (-52%) round up the Top 5 but all lose ground while the Toyota RAV4 (+203%) and Nissan Sunny (+209%) triple their sales compared to August 2016. The Nissan X-Trail, up 10-fold, and Juke, up 13-fold, Toyota Prius (+166%) and Jeep Grand Cherokee (up 7-fold) also post spectacular gains within the Top 20. There are no recent launches (<12 months) inside the Top 50, with the Geely X7 Sport (#60) and Nissan Kicks (#68) the most popular.
