This is it: the Mexican new car market comes to a screeching halt in July with a third year-on-year decline in four months at -7.3% to 122.119 registrations. The year-to-date tally remains in positive for now at a record 865.224 units, up a meagre 1.4% on the same period a year ago and in great danger of shifting into negative territory before the end of the year if the declines keep accumulating. Nissan of course remains the favourite brand in the country but falls much faster than the market at -15% to 23.1% share, not as fast as Chevrolet though, crumbling 22% to 15.5% share. More resistant are Volkswagen (-1%), Toyota (-5%) and most impressively Kia up a whopping 32% to hold the 5th spot for the third time in the past four months. This is the biggest gain in the Top 15 with Suzuki (+28%) and BMW (+19%) following. Further down, Fiat (+78%), Isuzu (+62%), Subaru (+80%) and Alfa Romeo (+52%) also shine.

…while the Fiat Mobi breaks into the Top 50 for the first time.

Model-wise, the Nissan Versa (-5%) and Pickup (+21%) dominate above two Volkswagens: the Jetta (+11%) and Vento (-2%) with the Chevrolet Aveo (-12%) rounding up the Top 5. Disappointing scores of the Nissan Sentra (-26%) and Chevrolet Spark (-56%) seemingly cannibalised by the Chevrolet Beat up 66 spots to break into the Top 10 for its 2nd month in market. The Kia Rio surges 84% to climb among the country’s 10 best-sellers for the 2nd time in three months (and ever). Notice also the Honda CR-V up 60%, the Nissan Kicks up to #16, the Toyota Hilux up 86%, the Mazda CX-3 up 80%, Hyundai Creta up 223%, VW Tiguan up 339% and the Fiat Mobi breaking into the Mexican Top 50 for the first time at #43.
