Malaysia July 2017: Perodua and Proton beat market back up 14%

The new Persona helps Proton up 54% in July in Malaysia.

The Malaysian new car market rebounds back up 14% year-on-year in July to 48.533 units, bringing the year-to-date tally up 7% to 340.456 sales. Market leader Perodua frankly beats the market with a 25% year-on-year improvement to 39% share, its highest since last February. Honda (+10%) remains in 2nd place but it’s Proton that for once delivers the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 at +54% to 12.3% share, albeit on a particularly low base in July 2016. BMW (+31%) and Ford (+32%) also shine inside the Top 10 while outside, Hino (+60%), Volkswagen (+91%), Peugeot (+32%), Audi (+51%) and Daihatsu (+59%) impress but Nissan (-18%), Mitsubishi (-32%), Hyundai (-31%), Kia (-44%) and Subaru (-64%) disappoint.
