The Singaporean new car market is up 2.5% year-on-year in May to 8.418 units and up 6.3% year-to-date to 37.533 units. For the second month in a row, Toyota is the best-selling carmaker in the country despite sales down 8% on May 2016 to 21% share, a mere 65 units above Honda up 1% to 20.2%. This slight advantage isn’t enough to reclaim the year-to-date leadership still held by Honda at 20.7% of the market vs. 20.2% for Toyota. Mazda surges 27% to 10.5% share, also claiming the third place year-to-date. Mercedes remains in fourth place with a more modest 10% improvement, ahead of Nissan down 38%. Mitsubishi (+55%), Kia (+28%), Opel (+2533%), Renault (+172%) and Maserati (+750%) all impress.
