Portugal May 2017: Leaders Clio and 208 frankly outpace market up 13%

The Portuguese new car market is up 13.4% year-on-year in May to 23.653 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 7.5% to 102.352 units. Renault frankly outpaces the market with a 32% surge to 14.8% share, while #2 Peugeot is up 15% to 9.9% share. Volkswagen is down 0.3% on May 2016 to round up the podium with Fiat up two spots on April and 14% year-on-year landing in 4th place, now ranking 6th year-to-date. Nissan (+36%) and Toyota (+71%) are the largest gainers in the Top 10 while beyond, Dacia (+46%), Hyundai (+46%), DS (+185%), Alfa Romeo (+198%) and Suzuki (+233%) are among the most dynamic.
In the models ranking, both the Renault Clio (+40%) and Peugeot 208 (+41%) post year-on-year gains way above the market to cement their domination. The VW Polo and Renault Megane overtake the Renault Captur and Nissan Qashqai year-to-date to rank #4 and #3 respectively, the Fiat Punto is up 38% to #8, the BMW 1 Series up 40% to #9 and the Toyota Yaris up 120% to #10. The Renault Kadjar (#39), Toyota C-HR (#65), Audi Q2 (#68) and Seat Ateca (#78) are the best-selling recent launches (<12 months).
