Spain December 2016: Renault shoots up 55% to 10.4% share

The Spanish new car market gains another 9% year-on-year in December to 97.411 registrations, the highest score for the month since 2007 (144.455), leading to a year-to-date tally up 11% to 1.153.645, the highest since 2008 (Full Year 2016 data will be treated in a separate post). Renault is the spectacular winner of the month with deliveries shooting up 55% to 10.125 and 10.4% share, allowing the French carmaker to jump past Opel and Volkswagen to snap up the 2016 pole position (more on this in the FY2016 report). Peugeot (+4%) is up 3 spots on last month to #2, ahead of Volkswagen (+7%), Opel (+27%) and Ford (-11%), Notice also Toyota (+14%), BMW (+21%), Audi (+38%), Fiat (+34%), Volvo (+20%), Mitsubishi (+67%) and Suzuki (+54%) all posting very robust increases. Model-wise, the VW Golf (+18%) jumps 9 spots on November to #1 with 2.664 sales, only 49 above the Renault Clio (+28%) and 50 above the Mégane (+152%). The Hyundai Tucson (+25%) and Nissan Qashqai (+3%) complete the Top 5, while the Renault Captur (+44%), Peugeot 2008 (+45%), Opel Corsa (+31%), Renault Kadjar (+30%) and Opel Mokka (+63%) impress inside the Top 20. The Seat Ateca nudges up 1 spot on last month to #20, the new Peugeot 3008 is up 4 to #25, the Toyota C-HR up 29 to #78 and the Alfa Romeo Giulia up 31 to #132.
