Ukraine 9 months 2016: Kia Sportage takes the lead

The Kia Sportage is now the best-selling vehicle in Ukraine so far in 2016.

The Ukrainian new car market has now bottomed out: July sals are up 4% year-on-year to 5.548, August up 63% to 5.629 and September up 32% to 5.771, a level equivalent to September 2014 (5.788). Year-to-date, new car sales in Ukraine now add up to 44.145 units, a 45% gain on the same period in 2015 but still down 42% on 2014 and 73% on 2013. The Top 5 best-selling carmakers all beat the market in 2016: Toyota (+55%) and Renault (+53%) lead the way above Volkswagen (+145%), Kia (+96%) and Skoda (+85%). Notice also BMW (+108%), Mercedes (+145%), Lada (+119%), Lexus (+151%), Volvo (+130%), Opel (+132%) and Jaguar (+256%) all more than doubling their sales year-on-year, whereas local brand ZAZ is down 2% to 10th overall.

First 9 months comparison – Ukraine 2013/2016:

The VW Jetta was the best-seller in Ukraine in July and now ranks #2 year-to-date. 

Model-wise, the Kia Sportage snaps the year-to-date pole position off the Renault Logan with 1.762 sales and 4% while the VW Jetta soars to 2nd place thanks to a mammoth July score (609 units), knocking the Logan down to #3. The Toyota RAV4 and Corolla round up the Top 5, with the Renault Duster, Lada 4×4 (aka Niva), BMW X5 and Suzuki Vitara the other SUVs in the Top 15. The Hyundai Tucson (#16), Mercedes GLE (#17), Audi Q7 (#24), Lexus RX (#38) and Mercedes GLS (#49) also shine.
