Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you the Top 10 best-selling nameplates of each UK nation in September. As a reminder, this data is already included in the UK September update, this is a zoom-in by nation. As it has been now become routine, England is once again the only “island” of growth in the UK in September with deliveries up 1.9% to 401.476 just as Wales drops 0.1% to 17.439, Scotland skids down 0.2% to 43.448 and Northern Ireland loses 1% to 6.657. Year-to-date, England is up 3% to 1.842.937 or 85.9% of the overall UK market, Scotland is down 1% to 178.479 (8.3% share), Wales is down 0.3% to 74.922 (3.5% share) and Northern Ireland up 0.5% to 48.548 (2.3% share).
The Seat Ibiza ranks #4 in Northern Ireland
The Ford Fiesta is #1 in all nations bar Scotland where the Vauxhall Corsa tops the charts, while the #2 spots changes hands with each nation: Corsa in England, Renault Clio in Scotland, Ford Focus in Wales and VW Golf in Northern Ireland. The Renault Group shines, also placing the Sandero at #5 in Wales and the Captur at #5 in Scotland. The Seat Ibiza shoots up to #4 in Northern Ireland while the Ford Kuga is #4 in Wales and #5 in Northern Ireland. Traditionally almost identical to the overall UK ranking given its weight in the market, in September the English models ranking shows a few “anomalies”: the Nissan Qashqai clearly outperforms, overtaking the VW Golf and Ford Focus to rank #3 overall, the Audi A3 nudges up to #7 and the Mercedes C-Class to #9. Notice the Mercedes A-Class holding onto its YTD Top 10 spot for dear life at 29.968 sales.
