With one month delay we can now update you on the Bulgarian new car market in July when sales are up 6% year-on-year to an estimated 2.721 units, matching the year-to-date progression so far to 18.245 registrations. Market leader Dacia frankly outpaces the market with deliveries up 38% to 383 and 14.1% share, distancing Skoda (+3%), Toyota (+31%) and Volkswagen (-3%). Ford (+57%), Seat (+90%), Fiat (+69%) and Land Rover (+100%) also impress. The Dacia Dokker is faithful to its leadership position with 6.7% share vs. 6.1% year-to-date, followed by the Skoda Octavia at 4.1%, Dacia Sandero at 3.4% and Nissan Qashqai at 3.2%. The Kia Cee’d (#8), Toyota Auris (#10), Peugeot 208 (#13), Skoda Rapid (#14) and Lada Niva (#16) also make themselves noticed.
A caveat to these results is the fact that Bulgaria sales figures are skewed by re-exports to other European Union countries, with a large portion of new car sales in the country never making it to local roads – as much as 20% – thanks to Bulgaria displaying some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon.
