New light vehicle sales in Qatar are down a steep 30% year-on-year over the first 7 months of 2016 to an almost round 40.003 units vs. 56.759 a year ago. Toyota accounts for over 1 in every 3 sales in the country, even managing to improve its market share to 34.6% thanks to deliveries down ‘just’ 26%. Nissan is hit harder at -35% in 2nd place with Mitsubishi (-24%) rounding up the podium. Kia goes from 3.6% share a year ago to 5% now thanks to sales down just 2% but the best performer in the Top 10 is without a doubt luxury marque Lexus posting a stunning 47% year-on-year increase to 1.979 units and 4.9% share. Outside the Top 10, Jeep (+171%), Infiniti (+14%), Peugeot (+149%), Ram (+257%), Bentley (+38%), Jaguar (+15%) and Volvo (+29%) also shine but Hyundai (-78%), Volkswagen (-60%) and Land Rover (-50%) struggle.
The Bentley Bentayga is already among the 100 best-sellers in Qatar.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is king of the sales charts once again in Qatar, improving its market share greatly from 9% a year ago to 13.7% now thanks to deliveries up 7% to 5.483. The Toyota Hilux (-38%) sells less than half of this amount at 2.189 with the Mitsubishi Lancer EX (-21%) in tow. Replicating the performance of the brand into the models ranking, the Lexus LX leaps up 71% year-on-year to land at a world-best 4th place with 1.663 sales and 4.2% share, missing out on a podium ranking for just 4 units. The Toyota Corolla (-27%), Prado (-37%) and Nissan Patrol (-56%) suffer the most inside the Top 10. Below, notice the Ford F-Series up 86% to #19, the Kia Picanto up 69% to #22 and Jeep Grand Cherokee up 144% to #23. Among recent launches, the Hyundai Creta (#58) and Bentley Bentayga – already among Qatar’s 100 best-sellers at #94 – do best. The full sales charts are below.
